PhD DISSERTATION:
My PhD work in the Cognition and Addiction Biopsychology Lab at UNC Chapel Hill (PI: Charlotte Boettiger, PhD) focused on delay discounting behavior in human subjects. Delay discounting occurs when people discount future rewards and is a behavior believed to be more severe in problem drug users (they discount the future more severely than age-matched controls).
My work at UNC used behavioral genetic approaches to understand the role of prefrontal cortex dopamine as a modulator of delay discounting behavior and the potential for this behavior to serve as an intermediate phenotype for alcohol use disorders.
